Does wearing a bonnet cause dandruff?

I've started wearing a silk bonnet at night to protect my hair and reduce frizz. But lately, I've noticed a bit of flakes on my scalp, and it feels a little itchy. Could wearing this bonnet be causing me to get dandruff?

No, a bonnet itself doesn't cause dandruff. But if you wear it on wet hair or don't wash it, sweat and moisture can buildup and cause flaking.

Wearing a bonnet is actually great for preventing hair breakage at night. Just try to wash the bonnet regularly with a gentle detergent so that old hair oils don't irritate your scalp.

Bonnets are amazing for curly hair! 🌸 They don't cause dandruff at all, just make sure you aren't wearing them when your scalp is sweaty or damp. Keep a couple of bonnets handy so you can rotate and wash them easily! ✨

My mother always tells me to let my hair air-dry naturally before sleeping, and she was right. If you wear a satin bonnet on damp hair, it traps the moisture which breeds dandruff-causing fungus. I followed my doctor's advice to only wear a clean, dry bonnet on completely dry hair, and it has kept my scalp very healthy.

I actually got terrible dandruff last winter because I was wearing my silk bonnet every night without washing it. Once I realized the sweat buildup was causing the fungus, I started washing my bonnets every week and always made sure my scalp was dry before sleeping. My dandruff disappeared completely!
