Does walking help kidney stones?

Kidney stones have troubled me a couple of times now, and the pain is terrible. A friend told me that if you keep walking, especially after drinking a lot of water, it helps the stones pass faster. Is there any truth to this or is it just an old wives' tale?

I went to a urologist at Apollo and they said walking can help small stones move down, but only if they are below a certain size. Please get an ultrasound done and ask your doctor clearly what is safe for your specific size of stone.

In our time, we used to drink plenty of coconut water and walk a lot to help pass small stones naturally. However, if the pain becomes very severe or you feel feverish, do not wait at home. Go to a hospital immediately.

Don't be afraid, I had a 4mm stone years ago and gentle walking along with lots of warm water helped it pass safely. Just keep yourself hydrated and have patience, it will resolve.

Gravity and physical movement like walking can assist the ureter in pushing small stones down to the bladder. My doctor advised drinking at least 3 liters of water daily while doing light walking, but warned against heavy jumping exercises.

I know how incredibly painful and stressful dealing with kidney stones can be, it's honestly exhausting. Walking did help me pass mine, but please listen to your body and rest when the pain is too much to bear.

I've had kidney stones twice. Walking works, but only for stones under 5mm or 6mm. If the stone is bigger, walking won't help much and might cause more pain, so get the size confirmed first via scan.

Walking creates mild vibrations that can help a small stone slip down the urinary tract. Just drink water continuously so there is enough fluid pressure. But if you vomit or see blood in urine, see a doctor right away.

I panicked like crazy when I was diagnosed with a 5mm stone, thinking I would need surgery. But my doctor said simple walking and high water intake would do the trick, and it actually passed in 10 days!

Please be very careful. I tried to walk off a large stone and it got badly stuck, causing a severe kidney infection and block. If the pain is sharp and radiating, go to a urologist immediately.

My sister had this last year and walking around the house really helped her feel better and pass the stone. Just keep a water bottle with you all the time and take small, gentle walks.

Drinking water and walking is good for overall health and stones. Since I have high BP, I also make sure my salt intake is low, as high salt can cause more stones. Keep your blood pressure and kidney health checked regularly.
