Does vomiting help headaches?

When I get really severe migraines, sometimes I also feel extremely nauseous and might even vomit. It often feels like a temporary relief after, but I'm not sure if vomiting actually helps to lessen the headache itself. Is there a connection?

Sometimes when there is excess gas or tension in the body, vomiting brings a sense of release and eases the head pressure. Try to rest in a quiet, dark room, keep your thoughts peaceful, and take good care of yourself.

Yes, for migraines, throwing up is often the only thing that finally stops the pounding headache.

For migraine sufferers, vomiting often relieves the headache because it releases certain hormones and shifts blood flow. However, it causes severe dehydration, so you must drink electrolyte fluids immediately after.

I get terrible hormonal migraines with nausea due to my PCOS. While throwing up sometimes eases the pressure in my head temporarily, it also leaves me very weak, so I prefer resting in a dark room with a cold compress.

I had a massive migraine attack last weekend and throwing up actually stopped the throbbing pain almost instantly. It is a weird relief, but make sure to drink some coconut water right after to recover your strength.

Yes, vomiting triggers autonomic nervous system changes that can abort a migraine attack for many. But don't make it a habit or force it; go see a neurologist to get proper migraine abortive medications instead.
