Does vomiting cause low blood sugar?

My son, who has Type 1 diabetes, sometimes has episodes of vomiting due to illness, and it's always a worry. I always worry about his sugar levels during these times. Can prolonged vomiting lead to dangerously low blood sugar levels for him?

Yes, vomiting can cause low blood sugar, especially because you cannot keep food down. Please try to sip a little sweet juice or glucose water if you can.

If you throw up everything you ate, your engine runs out of fuel, so obviously your blood sugar will drop! Skip the heavy food and just treat yourself to some sweet glucose water for now.

Whenever I vomit due to acidity, I start sweating and feeling shaky, which my doctor said is a drop in blood sugar. I usually just suck on a small piece of candy or rock sugar to feel better instantly.

I had severe food poisoning last week and my sugar levels crashed because I couldn't digest anything. I felt super dizzy, but sipping warm sugar-salt water slowly every fifteen minutes really helped me stabilize.

My mother always tells us to drink rice starch water with a pinch of salt when we throw up to prevent weakness. Our doctor also confirmed that vomiting stops glucose absorption, so keeping check on your sugar levels is very important.

It can definitely make your sugar levels drop since your body isn't getting any nutrients. Don't force yourself to eat heavy meals right now; just take small sips of sweet coconut water or Electral to keep your energy up.

With PCOS, my insulin levels are already sensitive, and throwing up makes me feel incredibly weak and shaky. I try to drink weak black tea with a spoonful of honey to gently bring my sugar back up without upsetting my stomach.
