Does vomiting cause high blood sugar?

My mother, who has diabetes, recently had a stomach upset and vomited a few times. We checked her blood sugar, and it seemed a bit high afterward. Can vomiting actually cause an increase in blood sugar levels, or was it a coincidence?

I noticed my sugar levels shot up to 240 after a bad bout of vomiting last week, even though I hadn't eaten anything. Is this normal, or is my body reacting weirdly to the stress of throwing up? Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, vomiting physically stresses your body, releasing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which cause the liver to release extra glucose. Make sure you check your ketones if you have Type 1 diabetes, and keep sipping water.

Yes, sickness and vomiting cause the body to release stress hormones, which can raise your sugar levels. Please rest, drink water, and keep a close eye on your health.

With my insulin resistance, I have noticed that any sickness or vomiting puts the body in flight mode, which spikes glucose levels. Try not to panic, keep yourself hydrated with plain water, and check in with your doctor if it stays high.

My hormonal levels go haywire when I am sick. The physical stress of vomiting can definitely raise blood sugar. It is best to monitor your levels every few hours and keep in touch with your endocrinologist for proper safety.

I panicked completely when my glucose monitor showed a high reading after I had food poisoning. My doctor reassured me that physical stress of throwing up triggers a temporary sugar spike. It went back to normal once my stomach settled down.
