Does vicks help with muscle pain?

A muscle in my back got pulled while lifting something yesterday, and it's really aching. A colleague suggested that Vicks VapoRub could help relieve the muscle pain. Is there any truth to this, or is it just a temporary feeling?

Yes, the menthol in Vicks creates a cooling and warming sensation that can temporarily distract you from mild muscle soreness after workouts. However, if the pain is from a serious tear or injury, please consult a doctor before doing any exercise or stretching.

Be careful, I once rubbed Vicks on what I thought was a simple muscle strain, but it was actually a severe ligament tear that got worse because I delayed treatment. If your pain is sharp, sudden, or doesn't go away in 2 days, please see a doctor immediately.

I sometimes get body aches due to hormonal fatigue and using Vicks gives a temporary comforting feel. But keep in mind it's just a surface-level relief, not a permanent cure for chronic pain.

My son gets calf pain after his football matches, and rubbing a little Vicks helps him sleep comfortably because of the soothing warmth. Just make sure they don't rub it too close to their eyes.

For normal back or shoulder stiffness, simple Vicks works fine as a cheap rub. Just massage it gently and wrap a warm cloth over it, it gives good relief without needing expensive pain sprays.
