Does vaporub help with fever?

My little one has a fever and is feeling quite restless. My mother-in-law suggested applying Vaporub, saying it helps bring down fever. Is it true, does Vaporub help with fever in children?

Vaporub doesn't actually reduce your body temperature, but it definitely helps you breathe better if you have a blocked nose with your fever! Put a little on your chest and get some cozy sleep! 🌸

Hey, don't stress too much about the fever, but skip the Vaporub for lowering temperature because it doesn't work that way. It just makes you feel cooler because of the menthol. Take a paracetamol if the doctor advised and just rest up, bro!

I usually avoid applying heavy ointments when my body is already running hot and inflamed, as it can feel very uncomfortable. Vaporub is great for congestion, but for an actual fever, monitoring your temperature and taking proper medical advice is much safer.

In my years of managing family health, I have found Vaporub is wonderful for soothing chest tightness during a cold. However, for a high fever, it is best to stick to light clothing, plenty of fluids, and a doctor's advice. Don't layer up with heavy balms.

True, it only helps with the cold and body pain that comes with fever, not the fever itself. Keep a thermometer handy to track your actual temperature.

Do not trust people who say rubbing balm on your feet or chest cures fever, that is completely unscientific. Fever is an internal immune response, and you need to diagnose the cause. Consult a doctor instead of trying home hacks.

I literally just recovered from a viral fever last week. I tried applying Vaporub thinking it would soothe me, but it actually made me sweat uncomfortably without lowering the fever at all. Cold water sponging and prescribed medicine are what actually helped.

Vaporub is only for nasal congestion and body aches, it has zero impact on reducing an actual fever. Don't waste time relying on it if your temperature is high. Take a proper medical consult and get back to work once you recover.
