Does ultraviolet radiation cause skin cancer?

My dermatologist advised me to be very careful with sun exposure, especially with the strong rays here in India. He specifically mentioned ultraviolet radiation. Does this kind of radiation directly cause skin cancer?

I won't give medical advice, but my uncle worked outdoors under the hot sun for decades and developed skin lesions that his doctor said were directly linked to UV radiation. Since then, our entire family has become very careful about using sun protection.

I didn't know much about UV rays until recently. Is the normal sunlight in India strong enough to cause this, or is it only a problem in colder countries? Sorry if this is a silly question, I am just trying to understand.

Yes, UV radiation is a proven risk factor for skin cancer. Just like I have to monitor my thyroid with regular blood tests, you should get any changing moles or spots checked by a dermatologist. Regular skin checks are a must if you have high sun exposure.

Haan na, UV radiation skin damage karta hi hai. That is why everyone suggests wearing sunscreen nowadays, ho na. Sunburn and long exposure can really damage our skin cells over time.

Absolutely, it does. I just finished my treatment for a localized skin cancer spot on my cheek last month, and the doctor confirmed it was due to chronic UV exposure. Please don't take this lightly; use sunblock daily and protect your skin.
