Does type ii diabetes require insulin?

My uncle was just diagnosed with Type II diabetes, and his doctor said he needs to start insulin. But my neighbour with the same condition just takes pills. I'm a bit confused now. Is insulin a must for Type II diabetes, or does it depend on the person?

I felt so defeated and cried when my doctor told me I needed to start insulin for my Type II. It felt like I had completely failed at managing my health. But honestly, it's just a tool to keep us safe, and it's totally okay if you need it.

I know how terrifying the thought of daily injections can be, and it is completely normal to feel anxious about this transition. Please remember that needing insulin doesn't mean you did anything wrong. Take your time to discuss your fears openly with your doctor.

My doctor just mentioned adding a low-dose insulin at night because my HbA1c is stuck at 8.2. I am really worried about weight gain and hypoglycemia. Has anyone else made this switch? How did you manage the anxiety?

Beta, I have had Type II for twenty-five years now. I was on tablets for fifteen years, and then my doctor put me on a small dose of insulin. It actually made me feel much more energetic and active. Don't be afraid of insulin; it is just a friend that helps your body.

I keep reading that long-term Type II can damage the pancreas and make insulin necessary, which makes me super anxious about my own future. But many people do manage with just tablets for decades. Just stay positive, keep checking your sugars, and trust your medical team.
