Does tramadol affect the liver?

For chronic back pain, I've been taking Tramadol for quite some time now. My brother was telling me that some pain meds can affect the liver. I'm a bit worried about this; is it true for Tramadol?

Haan na, tramadol liver pe effect kar sakta hai, khaskar agar pehle se koi liver issue ho toh. Doctor humesha dosage check karke hi dete hain isiliye. Hum khud se toh bilkul nahi le sakte aisi dawaiyaan.

Tramadol processed liver ke through hi hota hai, toh load toh padta hai body pe. Agar aap ye le rahe ho, toh doctor se pooch ke thodi light walking shuru karo, body active rahegi toh toxins jaldi clean honge. Par dawai sirf doctor ke bolne pe hi lo.

Bhaiya, ye dawa thoda tej hoti hai aur kaleje (liver) pe asar kar sakti hai agar bina doctor se pooche khayi jaye. Hamare gaon ke doctor bolte hain ki koi bhi dard ki dawa lene se pehle pet aur liver ka dhyan rakhna chahiye. Doctor ki salah jaroor le.

I am actually new to this medicine because my doctor just prescribed it for my back pain. Does it mean I need to get liver tests done before taking it, or is a small dose safe? I'm a bit scared to start it now.

Tramadol is metabolized in the liver, so patients with existing liver disease need a much lower dose. In healthy individuals, standard doses are usually safe, but abuse or chronic use can definitely cause hepatic stress. Please make sure you are monitored by a physician.

Yes, high doses of tramadol can impact the liver. It's always best to get routine liver function tests if you are on it for a long period.

I was reading about pain meds online and found out that while tramadol is mostly processed by the liver, normal doses rarely cause severe liver damage. It's mostly an issue if someone takes an overdose or mixes it with alcohol. Just follow your doctor's prescription carefully.

Haan yaar, heavy use se liver pe farak toh padta hi hai na. Isiliye toh doctor iski limited dose dete hain. Agar tumhara liver pehle se kamzor hai toh unhe pehle hi bata dena, bina bataye ye sab painkiller mat khana.
