Does tongue cancer hurt?

My neighbour recently told me about someone he knew who had tongue cancer. It got me thinking, if someone has this kind of cancer, would it always be painful? I'm wondering what symptoms to look out for.

Yes, in many cases it can cause pain or a persistent sore that doesn't heal. Please get any unusual mouth ulcer checked by an ENT specialist.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to worry about something like tongue cancer; I used to check my mouth in the mirror every day. While early stages might not hurt much, persistent pain or a lump should absolutely be checked by a doctor to put your mind at ease.

Up at 3 AM reading about tongue pain, and honestly, the internet will make you think a simple spicy food burn is terminal. But yes, serious issues can hurt, so skip the late-night Googling and just book a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning.

I am really scared because I have a small white bump on the side of my tongue that hurts when I eat. Does tongue cancer start like a normal mouth ulcer, or does it look completely different?

Oh god, this is my biggest fear! Every time I bite my tongue, I start panicking about cancer. Please go to a doctor right away to get it checked; waiting and overthinking will just ruin your peace of mind.

Yes, it can cause pain, numbness, or even bleeding in later stages. Please don't worry yourself sick, but do make a quick appointment with an ENT specialist to get a proper checkup.

My uncle had tongue cancer and he initially just had a painless ulcer that wouldn't go away, but it started hurting later as it grew. It's really different for everyone, so seeing an oncologist or ENT is the only way to be sure.

Hey there! Don't panic just yet. While it can cause pain, most painful tongue spots are just simple mouth ulcers from heat or stress. Get a doctor to check it out so you can relax and smile again!

At my age, even drinking hot tea hurts my tongue! But jokes apart, persistent tongue pain or numbness is nothing to play with. Get a dentist or doctor to look at it instead of searching symptoms online.

It absolutely can hurt, especially during chewing or swallowing. My close friend went through this and the key is early detection—any ulcer lasting more than two weeks needs a biopsy, no excuses.
