Does thyroid medicine make you gain weight?

My doctor recently prescribed medicine for my thyroid, and there's a little hesitation to start. Some friends have told me that thyroid medicine can make you gain weight. Is it true that thyroid medicine often causes weight gain?

I was super stressed about this before starting my pills, literally spending hours searching online if I would gain weight. But honestly, it is the opposite! The medicine actually helps fix your metabolism, so please don't worry about starting it.

No, thyroid medicine is meant to correct your hormone deficiency, which actually aids in weight management. If you are still gaining weight, you should get a fresh blood test done and consult your doctor to adjust your dose.

The medicine prescribed by your doctor is necessary to keep your body healthy, it won't make you gain weight. Along with your tablet, you can drink warm water with a little honey in the morning, but never skip your medical dose.

In my experience, thyroid medication does not cause weight gain. However, if you are also managing blood sugar levels, keeping a balanced low-carb diet alongside your thyroid treatment is the best way to keep your weight stable.

If thyroid pills caused weight gain, I'd be giant by now! It actually helps your body run faster. If we are putting on weight, it's probably our lack of sleep and late-night snacks, not the tiny morning tablet.

I completely understand your fear, weight gain is something that worries many of us when we start new medications. But reassure yourself, thyroid hormone replacement is just giving back what your body lacks, so it won't make you gain weight.

I panicked so much when I saw my weight fluctuating after starting my thyroid treatment. But it turned out my dose just needed minor adjustment. Once that was done, my weight actually came down to normal.
