Does the flu cause ear pain?

My son has flu-like symptoms and he's complaining that his ear hurts quite a lot. I always thought flu was mainly about throat and chest. Is it common for the flu to cause ear pain in children, or should I get him checked specifically for an ear infection?

Oh god, ear pain during flu is the absolute worst, I always panic thinking my eardrum is going to burst! It is actually quite common because of fluid build-up behind the eardrum. Try not to blow your nose too hard, and definitely tell your doctor if it starts throbbing.

I am having this exact ear ache right now with my cold and I was thoda scared. Does the pain usually go away on its own after the flu is cured, or do we need separate ear drops? Pls guide me.

Haan bhai, sardi-zukam mein kaan band hona aur dard hona bahut aam baat hai. Hamare yahan garam paani ki bhaap lene ko bolte hain taaki naak aur kaan khul jayein. Zyada dard ho toh doctor babu ko zaroor dikhana.

Absolutely, congestion blocks the ear canals, causing pressure pain. Make sure you stay fully hydrated to thin out the mucus. Skip the heavy workouts until the ear pressure subsides, as lifting weights can sometimes increase head pressure.

Yes, the pressure build-up can cause a dull ache. Keep yourself hydrated and try a short, light walk around the house to help with blood circulation, provided your doctor hasn't advised strict bed rest. Avoid any intense movements.

Please be very careful with ear pain. I once ignored a dull ear ache during flu, and it turned into a severe middle ear infection that required antibiotics and weeks of treatment. Get a doctor to look inside your ear with an otoscope.

Yes, ear congestion is very common with the flu. When this happens to me, I do gentle steam inhalation with a drop of eucalyptus oil, which helps clear the eustachian tube. Never put any hot oil directly into your ear, though!

Yes, it can! The ears, nose, and throat are all connected like a small highway system. When you get congested, the pressure shifts and makes your ears ache. Sit upright and sip some hot soup, it really helps clear things up!

I panicked so much the first time my ears got blocked during a bad cold, thinking I was losing my hearing. But it turned out to be just temporary congestion from the flu. It cleared up completely on its own within a few days.
