Does tamiflu bring down fever?
My daughter has a high fever, and the doctor prescribed Tamiflu. I'm wondering if it's effective in bringing the fever down quickly.

Tamiflu is for the flu virus, so it helps fight the infection which eventually brings down the fever. But for quick relief from high temperature, my family doc usually suggests taking a normal paracetamol alongside and doing warm water sponging.
It helps shorten the flu, but it isn't a direct fever reducer like crocin. I always drink warm ginger-tulsi tea and take plenty of rest to help the body recover. But if your fever is touching 102 or 103, please don't wait at home, go see a doctor immediately.
I know how scary it feels when the fever just won't budge even after taking medicines, it makes me panic too. Tamiflu works on the virus, so it takes a day or two to show results. Please try to stay calm, sip some warm water, and let the doctor guide you.
I was actually reading up on this yesterday because my roommate got down with influenza. From what I understand, Tamiflu stops the virus from multiplying, which helps your body cool down sooner. But apparently, it works best only if started within the first 48 hours.
Please don't self-medicate with Tamiflu just because you have a fever. I once ignored a rising fever thinking it was normal flu, took random pills, and ended up with severe lung congestion. Get a proper blood test and consult a doc before taking antiviral meds.
