Does swimming help back pain?

I've been suffering from chronic lower back pain for a few years now. My physiotherapist suggested swimming could be beneficial. Does swimming help back pain effectively?

Haan na, my doctor also suggested swimming for my lower back issues. The water supports your weight, so there is no heavy pressure on the spine like when walking or gymming. It really gives thoda relief if you do it gently.

I just recovered from a severe slip disc last month, and swimming was a game changer for my rehab. I started with simple water walking and light backstrokes, and the stiffness is almost gone now. Just avoid butterfly stroke as that can strain your lower back again.

I go to Apollo Hospital for my back issues and my physiotherapist there clearly told me that swimming helps only if your form is correct. If you do wrong strokes, it can actually make the back pain worse. Please consult a physical therapist before starting.

As someone working in health services, I see many people benefiting from aquatic therapy because it is zero-impact. It relaxes tight muscles and builds core strength without any jarring movements. Just make sure to warm up properly and don't swim in very cold water as muscles can tense up.

Actually yaar, swimming was the only thing that sorted out my back pain after sitting all day in my IT job. I used to feel like an eighty-year-old, but even twice a week of basic swimming helped strengthen my core. Just go for it, it really works!
