Does sugar aggravate arthritis?

My mother has severe arthritis, and her pain seems to be worse after she indulges in sweets. We're trying to figure out what aggravates her condition. Can sugar intake actually make arthritis symptoms worse or cause more inflammation?

It definitely does because sugar causes inflammation. A simple solution is to slowly replace white sugar with small amounts of jaggery in your tea and avoid packaged sweets entirely.

Refined sugar promotes inflammatory markers in the body which worsens joint pain. If you have a busy life, just cut out ready-made juices and sweet snacks from your office desk; you will see a difference.

Sugar creates toxic heat and swelling in the joints. Practicing light joint-loosening exercises (Sukshma Vyayama) along with a sugar-free natural diet will bring great relief to your body.

I was looking this up for my mother, and medical studies do show that high glucose levels trigger cytokine release, which directly worsens arthritis pain. It's a proven link.

Absolutely, sugar increases inflammation which limits joint mobility. If your doctor permits, combine a low-sugar diet with 30 minutes of low-impact walking to keep your joints lubricated.
