Does stroke numbness come and go?

After my stroke last year, I still get episodes of numbness in my hand, sometimes it's mild, sometimes it's stronger. My doctor said it could be post-stroke. Does stroke numbness usually come and go, or should I be worried about these fluctuations?

I get so anxious whenever my arm feels even slightly numb, thinking it's a sign of a stroke. Post-stroke numbness can actually fluctuate depending on tiredness or stress levels, but it is super nerve-wracking. Please make sure to track when it happens so you can tell the doctor.

Numbness that comes and goes after a stroke can happen, but it can also be a warning sign of a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or another stroke. Please do not take this lightly; get it checked by your neurologist immediately for safety.

When my mother experienced fluctuating numbness after her stroke, we took her to a reputed super-specialty hospital. The neurologist explained that fatigue or minor temperature changes can make the numbness feel worse. You should definitely ask your doctor clearly about this symptom.

Yes, many stroke survivors notice that the numbness feels better or worse on certain days depending on their fatigue. Please try to rest well and stay in touch with your doctor for peace of mind.

It can fluctuate, but you shouldn't ignore it to save on consulting fees. Plan a visit to a government hospital or a trust clinic where neurology consultations and basic scans are highly subsidized, so you get the right advice without burning a hole in your pocket.
