Does stress increase acidity?

Whenever I get really tense about something, I get this burning sensation in my chest. My grandmother always says 'tension se pet kharab hota hai'. Does stress really increase acidity problems?

Yes, stress definitely increases acidity. When you are tense, your stomach produces more acid and your digestive system slows down. Try having cold milk or buttermilk instead of tea when you are stressed, and try to keep your meal times fixed.

While stress-induced acidity is very common, constant burning sensations should not be ignored. It is always safest to get it checked by a gastroenterologist to rule out any ulcers or infections. Please don't keep relying on self-treatments.

I get terrible chest burns whenever I worry about anything, and then I start worrying if it is a heart issue, which makes the acidity even worse! It is a scary cycle, but drinking coconut water and taking deep breaths really helps calm the stomach down.

It absolutely does. During my college placements, my stomach was constantly on fire because of the tension. Skipping meals because of stress makes it ten times worse, so at least eat some simple khichdi on time.

I used to ignore my severe acidity thinking it was just work stress and kept popping antacids. It turned out to be a severe H. pylori infection that caused painful ulcers. Please get a proper medical checkup before it worsens.
