Does stress cause neck shoulder pain?

For months now, I've had this persistent neck and shoulder pain, and it gets worse when I'm under pressure. My physiotherapist suggested stress might be a major contributor. Can stress really cause such intense neck and shoulder pain?

Yes, when we are tensed, we unconsciously tighten our muscles, causing terrible neck and shoulder pain. I often use a warm hot water bag on the area to ease the tightness. It really helps, but please see a doctor if the pain persists.

My orthopedist explained that chronic stress causes prolonged muscle contraction in the trapezius area, leading to pain and stiffness. He advised combining stress-relief techniques with daily neck stretches. It is best to consult a specialist to rule out any posture-related issues.

Yes! Stress literally sits on your shoulders like an extra bag of cement. It is very common, so try to shrug it off, do some gentle neck rolls, and consult a doctor if your shoulders refuse to cooperate!

I literally just recovered from severe neck stiffness caused by work pressure and long hours at my desk. Getting professional physiotherapy and learning to manage my stress made a huge difference. Don't ignore it, get it checked early.

I totally relate to this, my shoulders get so stiff and painful whenever I am stressed about deadlines. Taking short breaks to stretch and drinking enough water really helps me cope. Definitely visit a doctor if the pain is too severe.
