Does strep always come with fever?

My daughter has a really bad sore throat, and we're debating if we should go to the clinic. She doesn't have any fever, which makes me think it might not be strep. Does strep always come with a fever, or can it be present without one?

Strep throat does not always come with a fever, and that can actually be dangerous. I once ignored a throat ache because there was no fever, and the infection spread, causing severe complications later. Please see a doctor to get a proper throat examination.

In my sixty years, I have seen many throat infections in our family. While fever is very common with strep, sometimes the only symptom is difficulty in swallowing and swollen glands. Don't worry, just keep drinking warm liquids and let a doctor have a look.

Do not rely on online forums to decide if you have strep based on having a fever or not. Strep is a bacterial infection that requires specific antibiotic treatment, which only a certified doctor should prescribe after a proper clinical test. Go verify with a clinic.

I literally just recovered from a strep infection last week and I had zero fever throughout. I only had white spots on my tonsils and severe swallowing pain. My doctor confirmed it was strep via a rapid test and put me on antibiotics, so yes, it can happen without fever.

Strep can occasionally occur without a fever. While you wait for a doctor's consultation, avoid cold foods, dairy products, or sour items like curd which can irritate the throat throat further. Stick to warm, clear vegetable soups and basic salt water gargles.

It is quite possible to have strep throat without having a fever. Please take care of yourself, keep resting, and consult a doctor to get the right treatment soon.

Whether you have a fever or not, a bacterial infection like strep taxes your immune system. I'd suggest skipping your workouts or any heavy physical exercise for a few days to let your body focus on recovery. Just stick to light stretching if you feel up to it.
