Does social media negatively affect mental health?

Lately, I've been feeling very anxious and comparing myself to others constantly because of all the social media scrolling. I'm wondering if this is a common experience. Does social media actually have a negative impact on mental health in general?

I used to be extremely anxious checking my feeds every ten minutes. I overcame this by turning off all non-essential notifications and dedicating only 30 minutes in the evening for social media. You have to take charge of your phone, not let it control you.

My grandmother always said that looking at other people's plates makes us forget our own blessings. When my sleep started getting affected, my doctor advised me to stop using social media before bed. Following medical advice is always the safest path to mental peace.

I recently recovered from a severe phase of depression that was triggered by online cyberbullying and comparison. Deleting those apps was the best decision of my life, and my mental health is so much better now.

I ignored my rising anxiety and lack of sleep from social media for months, thinking it was normal, until I had a panic attack. Please don't wait for things to get that bad. If you are struggling, talk to a mental health professional immediately.
