Does smoking affect thyroid?

I was diagnosed with a thyroid issue a few months back, and I'm also a social smoker. I'm wondering if my smoking habit could be impacting my thyroid gland. Does smoking affect the thyroid?

Our bodies are beautiful temples, and smoking introduces harsh elements that can disrupt our delicate hormonal balance, including the thyroid gland. Stay positive and take gentle care of your health by letting go of this habit. Wishing you peace and strength.

My cousin got diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and her doctor told her smoking makes the eye problems associated with thyroid much worse. It is crazy how cigarettes can affect so many different parts of the body. Definitely a good reason to quit.

I struggled so much with depression and anxiety when my thyroid levels went crazy, and smoking only made me feel more unstable. It is a vicious cycle of trying to cope but actually making your body feel worse. Please be kind to yourself and seek help to quit, it makes a huge difference.

Yes, tobacco smoke contains toxins like thiocyanate, which directly interferes with iodine absorption and thyroid function. If you have a family history of thyroid issues, you should get a TSH test done annually and avoid smoking completely. It is a simple step to prevent chronic issues.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last year and my doctor noticed my levels weren't stabilizing. He asked me to quit smoking, and within three months of quitting, my thyroid medication dosage was actually reduced. My energy levels are so much better now.

I totally get it, when you have high stress levels, smoking feels like the only escape, but it really harms your endocrine system. The chemicals in smoke can trigger autoimmune thyroid conditions like Graves' disease. Please try to take care of yourself, you deserve to feel healthy.
