Does sleep help when sick?

My son was down with a fever last week and the doctor advised a lot of rest. I've always heard that resting and sleeping are crucial when you're unwell. Does sleep really help the body recover faster when you are sick?

Drinking warm tulsi water and sleeping is the best way to fight a mild cold or fatigue. But please remember, if you have high fever or breathing issues, don't rely only on sleep, go see a doctor.

Yes, sleep is a passive form of healing where the body conserves its prana (energy) to fight the illness. Rest in a quiet space and try to do gentle abdominal breathing to relax.

Of course it does. When you are sick, your immune system is working overdrive and that takes a massive amount of energy. Shut down your laptop, skip the gym, and just sleep.

Sleep is good, but please watch out for severe symptoms. I once tried to sleep off a high fever which turned out to be severe dengue. If you feel very dizzy or weak, see a doctor immediately.

Definitely. When you are sick, forget about workouts. Sleep is your recovery time. Once you feel a bit better and your doctor says it's fine, you can start with light walks.

Yes, sleeping helps. Pair it with very light vegetarian food like moong dal khichdi so your body's energy is used for fighting the sickness rather than digesting heavy meals.

I always feel so weak when I have a fever, and I just want to sleep the whole day. Is it okay to sleep for 10-12 hours when we are sick, or is that too much?

Yes, our immune cells work best when the body is at rest. Keep yourself hydrated with warm fluids, take your prescribed medicines, and get plenty of uninterrupted sleep to recover quickly.
