Does scratching dandruff make it worse?

I have bad dandruff, and sometimes the itch gets so intense that I can't help but scratch. My friend told me that scratching actually makes it worse. Does scratching dandruff really make it worse, or is it okay to get some relief?

Scratching dandruff is like inviting a tiny snowstorm right onto your black t-shirt! Honestly, it feels great for a second, but it just irritates your scalp more and makes the flakes come back with a vengeance. Better to keep your hands busy elsewhere!

Actually, my dermatologist explained that scratching damages the delicate skin barrier of the scalp. This creates tiny micro-tears where the dandruff-causing yeast can thrive, leading to more inflammation and worse flaking. It is much better to use an anti-fungal shampoo containing ketoconazole instead.

Hey, don't stress too much about it, we've all been there scratching like crazy. But try to control the urge because scratching can lead to bleeding or even hair fall. Just use a mild anti-dandruff shampoo and let it heal naturally.

Let me tell you straight, scratching will only damage your hair roots and make your scalp bleed. If the itching is unbearable, go to a skin specialist and get a proper lotion rather than making it worse with your nails.

Scratching definitely makes the inflammation worse on your scalp. Along with using a gentle shampoo, I recommend cutting down on high-sugar foods and dairy, as they can sometimes trigger sebum production which feeds the dandruff yeast.
