Does salt help tooth pain?

My tooth is aching a bit and my dadi always suggested putting some salt on it. Does salt actually help with tooth pain, or is it just a temporary distraction? I'm looking for some relief before I can see a dentist.

When I went to Columbia Asia for a bad cavity, the dentist told me that warm saline rinses are great to disinfect the mouth, but they won't cure a deep infection. Please ask your dentist clearly to check for cavities or abscesses.

Yes, rinsing with warm salt water is an excellent temporary home remedy to reduce swelling and ease mild tooth pain.

I totally get it, tooth pain can be absolutely unbearable and makes it impossible to eat or sleep. Swishing warm water with a teaspoon of salt really helps reduce the inflammation and cleans the area, giving some temporary relief until you can see a dentist.

Salt water gargles are a solid temporary fix for gum swelling and mild ache, but let's be real—if you have a deep root canal issue, only a dentist can fix it. Don't rely on home remedies for too long, just book an appointment.
