Does rheumatoid arthritis qualify for disability?

My RA has become quite severe, making it difficult for me to do my daily work and even simple tasks. I'm wondering if rheumatoid arthritis is considered a condition that might qualify for disability benefits here in India. Are there specific criteria for this?

Under Indian government rules, severe RA can qualify for a disability certificate if it causes significant joint deformity and permanent physical impairment. My doctor mentioned that you need to be evaluated by a government medical board which assesses the exact percentage of your physical limitation.

In extreme cases where joints are severely affected, yes. But always try to keep your joints active with gentle movements so that you do not reach a state of complete dependency. Stay hopeful and keep practicing gentle self-care.

Yes, it can qualify, but the government paperwork in India takes a lot of time. You have to visit a government hospital, get your case reviewed by their panel, and get a disability card. It helps with tax benefits and travel concessions if the deformity is severe.

Yes, severe rheumatoid arthritis is recognized as a disabling condition, but eligibility depends strictly on the level of functional impairment. I highly recommend discussing this with your rheumatologist, who can guide you on the necessary medical documentation required for the application.

I agree with the others. If the joint damage is permanent, you can apply for a government disability certificate through a local civil hospital.
