Does rheumatoid arthritis cause muscle pain?

My joints hurt a lot with my RA, that's normal, but lately my muscles are also aching constantly, especially in my thighs and arms. I'm trying to figure out if this muscle pain is also a part of the rheumatoid arthritis or something separate.

I was researching this because my mom has been complaining of heavy calf pain along with her joint stiffness. It seems the inflammation from the joints can easily spread to nearby muscles and tendons, making them super sore. It sounds incredibly tough to manage.

Yes, muscle pain and weakness are very common secondary symptoms of RA due to chronic inflammation and reduced physical activity. However, since muscle pain can also be a side effect of certain medications, consulting your rheumatologist for a proper evaluation is the best approach.

I ignored severe muscle aches for months, thinking I was just tired from work, but it was actually muscle inflammation linked directly to my RA. It became so bad I could barely climb stairs. Please don't ignore it, get your doctor to check it out immediately.

Yes, muscle pain is very common. When your joints hurt, you tend to move differently, which puts extra strain on your muscles, leading to spasms and pain. Try gentle heat therapy at home, but do mention this to your doctor during your next visit.

I was dealing with terrible muscle pain in my thighs during my recent flare-up. Once my doctor adjusted my basic RA medication, the muscle soreness went away completely within two weeks. There is definitely hope, so hang in there!
