Does rheumatoid arthritis cause hives?

I've had RA for a few years now, and lately, I've started getting these itchy red patches, almost like hives, especially when my joints flare up. Is it possible for rheumatoid arthritis to cause skin issues like this, or should I be looking at something else?

My daughter developed itchy red hives a few weeks after starting her new arthritis therapy. We rushed her to her pediatrician, and they immediately changed her medication. Please keep a close eye and don't delay showing it to a specialist.

Yes, it can happen due to systemic inflammation or as an allergic reaction to RA medications. Please consult your doctor about this.

Hives could be an allergic reaction to your expensive RA medicines, which would be a waste of money if you have to stop them. Before spending on expensive allergy panels, check with your main doctor first to see if they can simply adjust the prescription.

Over the years in this support group, I have seen many members report hives. Sometimes it is a side effect of biologic drugs, and other times it is the autoimmune condition itself affecting the skin. I highly recommend keeping a daily symptom journal to show your physician.

I got these random itchy rashes and thought it was my love for spicy street food acting up! But my doctor told me it can be linked to autoimmune issues like RA. Now I have to be super careful with both my joints and my late-night chaat cravings.

Hives can sometimes indicate a serious allergic reaction to your ongoing treatment. For safety, please do not ignore this or treat it with self-prescribed anti-allergics. Contact your consulting specialist immediately for advice.

Honestly, I got crazy hives when my RA flare-up was at its worst. My doc said it was vasculitis, which is related to the arthritis inflammation, not just a normal skin allergy. Definitely get it checked out by your rheumatologist.
