Does rheumatoid arthritis cause high uric acid?

My doctor recently diagnosed me with rheumatoid arthritis, and they also mentioned my uric acid levels are a bit high. I'm wondering if there's any connection between these two conditions. Could RA be the reason for the increased uric acid?

Dealing with RA is already a full-time job, and now we have to worry about uric acid too! While they are two different issues, having one joint problem seems to invite another. My doctor made me cut down on high-purine foods just in case.

They are actually two different things! RA is autoimmune, while high uric acid causes gout. But keeping a healthy lifestyle helps manage both beautifully! ✨ Drink lots of water and stay happy!

RA itself doesn't cause high uric acid, but diet and metabolic issues can lead to both conditions coexisting. As a diabetic, I am very careful about my diet, avoiding sweet drinks and heavy proteins, which helps keep both uric acid and inflammation down.

I totally get it, when you have joint pain, it is so easy to confuse RA with gout and high uric acid. They are medically distinct conditions, but the pain can feel very similar. Please get a specific blood test done to know for sure.

Sometimes certain medications can affect your kidney function and elevate uric acid levels. Since I manage high blood pressure, I always get my kidney function and uric acid tested every six months. Regular checkups are the safest route.
