Does raw spinach cause kidney stones?

I've been trying to incorporate more raw greens into my diet, like spinach in my smoothies and salads. But a relative warned me that eating too much raw spinach can lead to kidney stones. Is there any truth to this; does raw spinach really cause kidney stones?

Haha, if raw spinach caused kidney stones instantly, half the people drinking green smoothies on Instagram would be in the hospital! Yes, it has oxalates, but you'd have to eat a mountain of raw palak daily for that to happen. Relax, your morning salad is not your enemy.

In Ayurveda, we are always advised to cook leafy greens rather than eating them raw, as raw greens are hard on the digestive fire. Cooking spinach with a little jeera and drinking warm water helps flush out toxins. If you already have pain in your back or kidney area, please visit a doctor immediately instead of trying home remedies.

Hey, don't worry. Raw spinach does contain oxalates, which can contribute to stones in people who are prone to them, but it doesn't mean it will definitely happen to you. Just make sure you cook or blanch it, which reduces the oxalate levels significantly, and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

My husband actually had a calcium oxalate stone last year, and our nephrologist at Manipal Hospital specifically told him to limit high-oxalate foods like raw spinach. If you have a family history of kidney stones, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor before doing spinach diets. They can run a simple urine test to see your risk.

Honestly, I don't have time for complicated diet plans, but I do know that balance is key. If you are throwing handfuls of raw spinach into a blender every single day, it might build up oxalates. Just rotate your greens, cook your spinach, and stay hydrated to be safe.

Humare yahan toh palak ko hamesha acche se ubaal kar hi banate hain. Raw spinach digests slowly anyway and can be heavy for the stomach. Agar aapko chinta hai, toh thoda paka kar khao aur khoob saara paani piya karo, sab theek rahega.
