Does rain make arthritis worse?

Every time the rain starts, my arthritis pain flares up, particularly in my hands and shoulders. My family thinks it's just my imagination, but I truly feel it. Does rain genuinely make arthritis worse for people, or is it considered an old wives' tale?

Bro, absolutely. Whenever it rains in Delhi NCR, my knees start acting up big time. It feels like some weird pressure change in the air just triggers the swelling. I usually just wear knee sleeves and keep warm.

Don't blindly believe all these WhatsApp forwards and random websites about weather and joint pain. While barometric pressure changes might affect some, you really need to consult a proper rheumatologist to understand your specific condition. Get a proper diagnosis done instead of self-treating at home.

In my experience, the dampness and cold wind during monsoon definitely stiffen the joints. I have found so much relief by doing gentle Sukshma Vyayama and regular joint loosening stretches inside a warm room. Taking deep, slow breaths during these times really helps soothe the nervous system.

The damp weather can increase inflammation, so I am very careful about what I eat when it rains. I completely avoid sour foods and heavy, fried stuff which can aggravate joint pain. Adding a bit of ginger and turmeric to warm water has worked really well for me to manage the flare-ups.

Yes, actually! My mom goes through this every monsoon here in Kerala. It gets so damp and her joint pain shoots up immediately. We usually keep her room cozy, use hot water bags, and make sure she doesn't sit directly under the AC.

I was actually reading up on this because my grandad complains about his ankles whenever a storm is coming. Apparently, the drop in barometric pressure makes the tissues in our joints expand, which causes pain. It is crazy how our bodies can predict the weather like that!
