Does promethazine make you sleep?

I've been having a tough time with insomnia lately, and my uncle suggested Promethazine, saying it helps him sleep. Is this medication typically used to help people fall asleep, and how effective is it?

Yes, it definitely does. In my younger days, whenever the doctor prescribed promethazine for my allergies or nausea, it would make me incredibly drowsy and I would sleep for hours. Just make sure you take it only when your doctor specifically prescribes it.

Yes, it made me sleep for almost ten hours straight and I felt so groggy the next day! Did anyone else feel completely heavy and slow even after waking up from this? I got really scared about taking the next dose.

Promethazine is a strong antihistamine and drowsiness is a major side effect. If you have to work or drive the next day, be very careful with the timing of your dose, or ask your doctor for a non-drowsy alternative so your work schedule isn't affected.

Yes, it causes deep sleep. My grandmother used to say that any medicine that cures nausea has to put the body to rest, but we always consult our family doctor before taking promethazine to make sure the dosage is safe.

I panicked so much the first time I took it because I slept like a log and couldn't wake up easily. But my doctor explained that drowsiness is completely normal for this medicine. Don't worry, just take it exactly as prescribed and rest up.

It definitely causes heavy sleep and grogginess. Since I already have thyroid issues and face extreme fatigue, I had to be very careful with this medication and got a follow-up check with my doctor to ensure it didn't worsen my daily energy levels.
