Does prednisone reduce fever?

I've had a persistent high fever for two days now, and it's not breaking. I have some Prednisone from a past prescription. Can Prednisone actually help to reduce fever, or is it only for inflammation?

My doctor prescribed prednisone for an inflammatory condition and my mild fever also went away, but I am worried if it is safe to use it just for fever? Did anyone else's doctor tell them not to take it for normal viral infections? I feel a bit nervous.

Yes, prednisone can bring down a fever because it blocks the body's inflammatory chemicals. However, it should never be used as a routine fever reducer like paracetamol. Using it for a standard infection-related fever can actually suppress your immune system, so please be cautious.

It can reduce fever due to its anti-inflammatory action, but it is not meant for standard infections. Better to consult your doctor for a proper fever diagnosis.

Prednisone is a strong steroid, not a standard fever medicine. While it can reduce fever, it is better to manage viral symptoms with simple paracetamol, warm vegetable broths, and light food. Please consult your physician before taking such high-potency drugs.

I once took a family member's left-over steroid tablet to quickly bring down a stubborn fever, and it masked a serious infection which got much worse later. Please do not self-medicate with prednisone for fever. Go get a proper blood test and consult a doctor.

Hey, don't worry, but let me clarify one thing. Prednisone isn't a normal fever tablet. It is a powerful steroid. If you have a fever, please stick to normal paracetamol and consult your family doctor instead of using this. Take care and get some good rest.
