Does potassium help you sleep?

Lately, I've been struggling with insomnia and restless nights. My wife read somewhere that proper potassium intake can improve sleep quality. Is there any truth to this, doc? Should I try to increase my potassium?

With my PCOS, sleep is always a struggle. I noticed having a banana or some coconut water in the evening relaxes my muscles a bit, but it might not be a complete cure for insomnia.

Potassium helps prevent muscle cramps and relaxes your nervous system, which definitely aids recovery and sleep after a heavy workout. Try getting it from spinach, avocados, or sweet potatoes.

Drinking warm turmeric milk with a few soaked almonds before bed is a wonderful natural way to sleep. If you are having chronic sleeplessness, please go see a doctor instead of just trying home remedies.

I’ve tried eating bananas at midnight and I’m still staring at my ceiling at 3 AM. It might relax your muscles, but don't expect it to magically knock you out if your mind is racing.

I used to have terrible sleep issues due to my thyroid. Sometimes a lack of minerals like potassium can affect rest, but you should get your blood levels tested first and let your doctor advise you properly.
