Does post stroke pain go away?

My father suffered a stroke last year, and he's still experiencing a lot of pain, especially in his limbs. We've been doing physiotherapy, but the pain persists. Does post-stroke pain eventually go away, or is this something he'll have to live with?

My thyroid issues taught me that nerve and metabolic recovery is a very slow process. For stroke recovery, regular follow-ups with the neurologist are absolutely essential. Don't skip doctor visits, as they need to assess if the pain therapy needs adjustments.

Please do not ignore this pain or wait for it to just go away on its own. I once delayed reporting nerve discomfort after an illness and it became much harder to treat later. Take the patient to their doctor immediately to get it evaluated.

Post-stroke pain, often called central pain, can be quite stubborn but it can be managed. Usually, standard pain relievers don't work well for this, so doctors prescribe specific nerve medications. Please speak to their doctor so they can get the right kind of therapy.

Since neuro treatments and rehab therapy sessions can get very expensive, it is better to plan your medical budget early. Check if your insurance covers home physiotherapy, as consistent sessions are crucial for stroke pain recovery without burning a hole in your pocket.

My father is also facing some mild burning pain in his legs after a minor stroke last month. We are very scared about it. Does the physiotherapy hurt them initially, or is it gentle? If anyone could share, it would help us a lot.

I agree with the others. Physical therapy combined with the doctor's prescribed nerve medication is the only real way to manage this pain.

When my uncle had this, our neurologist explained that the brain's pain signals get scrambled after a stroke. He told us that while it might not completely disappear instantly, it can be significantly reduced with a mix of physical therapy and targeted nerve medicines. It requires a lot of patience.

Tracking pain levels daily on a health app really helped us notice what triggered my aunt's pain after her stroke. We realized cold weather and lack of movement made it worse. Sharing these digital logs with her doctor helped them customize her treatment plan perfectly.

In our family, my grandfather suffered from severe post-stroke burning pain in his left hand. With regular light massage and daily stretching prescribed by his therapist, the intensity reduced gradually over a year. Every patient's recovery journey seems to be quite different.
