Does popping your back cause arthritis?

I often feel the need to crack my back to relieve stiffness, especially after sitting for long hours. My family tells me to stop, saying it's bad for my spine. Does popping your back cause arthritis or other long-term damage?

Popping your back occasionally does not cause arthritis, but regular back stiffness can be due to a sedentary lifestyle. I also have high BP and back stiffness, so I focus on a healthy diet, daily walks, and regular health checkups. Don't force your back to pop too much.

No, it doesn't cause arthritis. Popping is just the release of pressure in the facet joints of the spine. If you sit at a desk for 9 hours, invest in an ergonomic chair and stretch instead of forcefully twisting your back to hear a pop.

Do not rely on YouTube videos or random internet claims showing you how to crack your own spine. Gentle cracking is just gas release, but aggressive self-adjusting can cause nerve or disc injuries. Always consult a physiotherapist or doctor if your back is chronically stiff.

Bro, I pop my back all the time after sitting in lectures. It doesn't cause arthritis, it actually feels pretty good and relieves the tension. Just don't let your friends do those crazy wrestling moves on your back to crack it.

Even though simple popping doesn't lead to arthritis, doing it habitually can sometimes overstretch your spinal ligaments over time. If you have chronic back tension or pain, it is always safest to consult an orthopedic specialist rather than self-managing.

I also had this habit of twisting my spine to pop it while studying, and my mom used to warn me about arthritis. Thankfully, my doctor assured me it's just gas bubbles releasing. Doing basic yoga stretches is a much gentler way to relieve the stiffness, though!
