Does pneumonia always present with a fever?

Have a terrible cough and feel very weak, but no fever yet. Does pneumonia always present with a fever, or can you have it without one? Really worried.

Actually, no. When my dad had it last year, he had zero fever but was feeling very weak and had a dry cough. The doc explained that in elderly patients or people with low immunity, the body sometimes doesn't mount a fever response, so you have to watch out for other symptoms like fatigue or chest discomfort.

Honestly, not always. I track my vitals closely on my smartwatch and when I had mild pneumonia, my temperature barely touched 99, but my SpO2 levels and resting heart rate were quite off. If you are feeling breathless or unusually tired, don't wait for a high fever to show up on the thermometer, just get it checked.

I totally get it, you must be worried trying to figure out what is wrong. It is very possible to have pneumonia without a typical high fever, which makes it so confusing. Please don't stress but do see a doctor soon just to be safe and get some peace of mind.

Not always, buddy. Sometimes it starts with just a deep cough and feeling totally wiped out. If your doctor gives you the green light, light walking inside the room can help keep your lungs active, but absolutely avoid any heavy workouts until you are completely cleared.

Don't rely on random internet answers or home remedies to decide if it is pneumonia or not. A lot of people think no fever means no serious infection, which is a huge mistake. Only an X-ray and a proper doctor's consultation can confirm what is actually going on.

With my thyroid issues, my immunity is always a bit tricky and I rarely get typical high fevers even during infections. That is why I never guess these things and always get blood tests and a doctor's checkup done. Regular follow-ups with your physician are the safest way to deal with any lung issues.

I have recovered from pneumonia twice and let me tell you, fever isn't a guaranteed symptom. Focus more on how your breathing feels and if you have chest pain when coughing. Rest completely, keep yourself hydrated with warm water, and make sure you follow the full course of antibiotics your doctor gives you.

I am actually quite new to learning about this because my uncle was just diagnosed. He also didn't have a very high fever, just a mild cold and heavy breathing. Does anyone know if the lack of fever means the infection is less severe, or can it still be serious?

My roommate had this exact thing last winter. She was coughing non-stop but her body temperature was completely normal, so we thought it was just a regular allergy. It turned out to be walking pneumonia, so it's definitely better to get a doctor to listen to your lungs.

This is exactly what I've been worrying about because I've had a bad cough and chest tightness for a week but no fever at all. Did anyone else here have confirmed pneumonia without ever running a temperature? I'm getting a bit paranoid now and thinking of visiting the clinic tomorrow.
