Does ozempic help with kidney disease?

My father has type 2 diabetes and also early-stage kidney disease. His doctor wants him to start Ozempic. Can this medicine help protect his kidneys or slow down kidney disease progression?

Controlling blood sugar and pressure is extremely vital for protecting kidneys. This medicine is known to offer some cardiovascular and renal protection in diabetes patients. However, you must get your kidney function checked regularly and consult your doctor for proper advice.

My child, kidneys are very delicate organs. While managing diabetes properly keeps them safe, you should never rely on any heavy modern medicines without thorough consultation with a specialist. Drink adequate water and eat a clean, low-salt diet.

Recent clinical trials indicate that GLP-1 receptor agonists can help slow down the progression of chronic kidney disease in diabetic patients. However, dosage adjustments might be needed depending on your filtration rate, so consult a nephrologist before starting.

I totally get it, worrying about kidney health can be really stressful when you are already dealing with other issues. Since kidneys are highly sensitive, it's super important to let a specialist evaluate your overall health profile to decide if this is safe for you.

I can only speak from my uncle's experience who has diabetes-related kidney issues. His nephrologist carefully monitored his kidney function tests before adjusting his diabetes medication, including this one. Please let a qualified doctor handle this decision.
