Does oxygen help asthma?

My son has asthma, and sometimes during attacks, he struggles to breathe. I've seen in movies that oxygen is given; does providing supplemental oxygen really help in managing asthma symptoms during an exacerbation?

I get so scared during my asthma attacks and always wonder if keeping an oxygen cylinder at home would help. Does anyone else feel like they need oxygen support during sudden breathlessness, or is an inhaler enough?

While oxygen is vital during severe medical emergencies, regular breathing exercises and a clean diet can support lung health. Avoiding mucus-forming foods might help reduce general congestion. But yes, always consult your doctor for real asthma management.

Yes, oxygen therapy is used in hospitals during severe asthma attacks to help you breathe easier. Please take care of your health and keep your inhaler close by.

My roommate has bad asthma, and the doc told him that oxygen therapy is only for extreme emergencies in the ER, not a regular fix. Usually, his rescue inhaler does the job in a couple of minutes. Don't try using random oxygen cans on your own.

True, oxygen therapy is very helpful but only during severe hospital admissions. For daily care, checking your peak flow and using prescribed inhalers is what works best.

Please don't buy those portable oxygen cans online thinking they will cure asthma attacks. Asthma is an airway inflammation issue, not just a lack of oxygen. Verify with a qualified pulmonologist before trying any such things.

Don't worry too much, but remember that oxygen is a medical treatment. If you are having a severe attack where your normal inhaler isn't working, please go to a hospital emergency room immediately. They will provide oxygen safely under supervision.
