Does omeprazole cause kidney disease?

My doctor has had me on Omeprazole for my stomach issues for years. I recently heard a rumour that it might be bad for kidneys. Does omeprazole cause kidney disease if taken for a long time?

I completely panicked when I read a blog linking Omeprazole to kidney issues because I've been taking it for my GERD. But my doctor reassured me that kidney issues are very rare and mostly happen only with long-term, unmonitored abuse. I feel so much better now after getting a simple kidney test done.

There are some studies linking chronic, long-term PPI use to kidney strain. To avoid needing acidity pills, try staying hydrated, avoiding heavy meals right before sleeping, and doing regular cardio. It works wonders for digestion.

I totally understand how terrifying it is to read about kidney risks on the internet, it literally kept me awake for nights. Please don't stress, standard short-term courses are very safe. Just make sure you are taking it under a doctor's advice to keep your mind at ease.

If you have been on Omeprazole for a long time and are worried, just book a basic Kidney Function Test (KFT). It costs only around 300 to 500 rupees at local labs. Doing this test once will clear all your doubts and save you from unnecessary stress.

I used Omeprazole for over a year for a severe ulcer, and my doctor kept a close eye on my kidney health. He told me that as long as you do routine blood tests (like serum creatinine) once or twice a year, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Don't self-medicate indefinitely.
