Does olive oil help eczema?

My skin is very dry and itchy, especially with this eczema. I heard from a friend that applying olive oil might help soothe the irritation. Can it actually improve my condition or just moisturise a bit?

I applied olive oil on my red patches yesterday and it started burning quite a bit. Now I am super anxious if I made it worse. Has anyone else experienced burning with olive oil on flared-up skin?

My skin gets incredibly dry and itchy because of my thyroid levels, and while olive oil helps soothe the dryness temporarily, it doesn't cure skin issues. It is so important to keep your underlying blood reports in check. Please consult a dermatologist for a proper steroid or non-steroid eczema cream.

I was researching this yesterday because my niece has mild dry patches. Some medical blogs say olive oil can actually dry out the skin barrier further, while coconut oil is better for eczema. It is so confusing, better to just ask a proper doctor.

Instead of buying expensive imported extra virgin olive oil which might not even work, it is better to spend that money on a proper skin allergy test. A dermat consultation and a basic IgE test will cost you around 1500-2000 rupees but will give you the exact trigger. It saves a lot of money in the long run.

For eczema, direct oil application might sometimes irritate the skin barrier if it is already broken. In my experience with high BP and skin issues, managing diet and avoiding processed foods helps reduce skin inflammation from inside. Definitely consult your physician before experimenting.

Bro, dont apply olive oil directly on eczema flares. It actually has more oleic acid which can break down the skin barrier even more. I tried it on my arm rash and it became super red. Stick to moisturizer prescribed by a doctor.
