Does oat milk cause diabetes?

I've switched to oat milk recently thinking it's a healthier alternative to dairy. My uncle, who has diabetes, warned me about its sugar content. Can oat milk actually contribute to developing diabetes or worsen it?

I switched to oat milk last year, and during my routine health checks, my blood sugar levels were completely normal. However, I always choose the unsweetened version because some brands add a lot of extra sugar.

Haha, if oat milk caused diabetes, half of the hipster cafes in Mumbai would be out of business! It does have a high glycemic index, but drinking it in moderation won't magically give you diabetes overnight.

It is so exhausting when you are trying to make healthier lifestyle choices and then read scary things online that make you feel guilty about what you eat. Your confusion is completely valid, it is really hard to navigate all this health information.

There are so many extreme health claims online claiming oat milk is toxic or causes diabetes. Don't trust these random videos; instead, verify with a certified clinical nutritionist or doctor who understands your metabolic health.

Oat milk is processed and the starches break down into simple sugars, which can spike your glucose levels quickly. As a vegetarian, I prefer soy or almond milk which have more protein and fewer carbs, as they are much better for insulin sensitivity.
