Does nyquil help you sleep?

I've been having trouble sleeping lately when I catch a cold, and someone vaguely mentioned a product called Nyquil that helps with sleep. Is it true that it has ingredients that can make you drowsy? Just looking for options to get some rest when I'm sick.

I have been having a really hard time sleeping lately because of exam stress. Does this syrup actually help you get deep sleep, or does it just make you feel dizzy the next morning?

It contains an antihistamine which causes drowsiness, so it does help you sleep when you are sick. However, using a cold medication as a regular sleep aid isn't recommended, so consulting a doctor for sleep issues is best.

Please don't use this just to fall asleep. It is a multi-symptom cold medicine with active ingredients you don't need if you aren't sick, so verify with a doctor before taking anything.

While it can make you drowsy, using it for insomnia can be risky and habit-forming. If you are struggling with sleep regularly, please get it checked by a medical professional for your safety.

Oh yes, it totally knocks you out within 30 minutes! It is perfect when you have a bad cold and just want to sleep like a baby. Just don't make it a habit!

As a 52-year-old with a busy job, sleep is a luxury. NyQuil definitely puts you to sleep, but you wake up feeling like you ran a marathon in your dreams. Best to use it only when you actually have the flu.

It is very effective for sleep when you have a heavy head and cold. I have used it occasionally over the years during bad flu seasons, and a single dose always helped me rest peacefully.
