Does not eating cause stomach pain?

I have a habit of skipping breakfast and sometimes even lunch when I'm engrossed in work. Lately, I've been getting stomach aches in the evenings. Could this stomach pain be because I'm not eating regularly?

Yes, keeping an empty stomach for too long is a very common cause of stomach pain because the digestive acids have no food to work on, which causes irritation. I always advise people here to have a glass of warm water or a small banana when they start feeling that empty ache. Don't skip meals regularly.

I read that when we don't eat, our stomach acid keeps building up and starts irritating the stomach lining, leading to acidity or gastritis. It happens to me whenever I skip breakfast for morning classes. It's actually a very common physiological response.

In my experience, whenever I fast for more than 10-12 hours, I get a dull ache right in the center of my stomach. Having a simple bowl of curd rice usually calms it down for me. That's just what works for my body when I face this.

My mother always tells me that keeping the stomach empty invites 'gas' and burning pain, and she makes me drink buttermilk. But if your stomach pain is very severe or happens daily, please consult a doctor to rule out ulcers or other issues.

I just went through this last week because of my hectic project. I was skipping meals and got terrible burning pain in my upper stomach. My doc told me it was acute acidity due to prolonged fasting, and once I started eating small meals on time, the pain completely vanished.

Please be very careful with stomach pain from fasting. I used to ignore my empty-stomach pain thinking it was just normal acidity, but it turned out to be a severe ulcer that required long treatment. If the pain is sharp or comes with nausea, get it checked by a specialist immediately.

I track my fasting windows on an app, and I noticed that if I stretch my fast beyond 16 hours without proper hydration, my gut acidity levels spike and cause cramps. Keeping track of your food timings and logging when the pain occurs can help you find your sweet spot.
