Does nitrofurantoin treat kidney infections?

My sister has a kidney infection, and her doctor prescribed Nitrofurantoin. She's a bit skeptical and wants to know if it's really effective. Does Nitrofurantoin specifically treat kidney infections?

Hey, don't worry too much. Nitrofurantoin is usually used for simple bladder infections, but it doesn't reach high enough concentrations in the kidneys to treat a proper kidney infection. Please see a doctor right away to get the correct antibiotic.

Don't just go by what people say online or take leftover antibiotics. Nitrofurantoin is typically not the choice for kidney infections. You need a proper urine culture and a doctor's prescription, otherwise you will ruin your health.

I had a bad UTI last year and my doctor told me nitrofurantoin only works in the bladder, not the kidneys. Kidney infections can get serious quickly with fever and back pain, so please visit a clinic today itself.

I hope you are not in too much pain. Kidney infections need proper care, so please consult a doctor as soon as possible. Take care of yourself.

My grandmother always says to drink lots of water and barley water for urine issues, which is good. But for a kidney infection, natural remedies or basic pills won't work. Please go to a doctor; they usually prescribe stronger medications for the kidneys.

At my age, my kidneys are already tired! From what I know, nitrofurantoin is too weak to climb up to the kidneys. Save yourself the trouble and see a doctor before you end up with a nasty fever.
