Does neosporin help eczema?

My son has a patch of eczema that keeps flaring up. We have Neosporin at home for cuts and scrapes. Can Neosporin be used for eczema, or will it make it worse?

Hey, don't stress too much about the flare-up! Neosporin has antibiotics which you don't need unless you've scratched it open and got an infection. Just stick to a soothing cream and let it heal slowly, okay?

Honestly, neosporin is for cuts and stuff, not really for eczema. My roommate tried it on his dry patches and it actually made it redder. Better to use a thick unscented moisturizer instead.

I tried putting neosporin on my eczema once, but honestly, focusing on my gut health worked much better. Cutting down on extra spicy street food and dairy for a week cleared up my skin irritation way faster than any ointment!

I am also dealing with this right now and was thinking of applying neosporin today. Did anyone else get a burning sensation when they tried it? I am so scared of making my skin worse, please let me know.

No, neosporin is an antibacterial cream and won't help eczema unless there is an active infection. It is better to use a mild steroid or barrier cream.

My skin has become so dramatic in my fifties that even looking at neosporin wrong gives me a rash. Eczema is an entirely different beast. Save the neosporin for when you cut your finger chopping vegetables and get a proper skin cream instead.

In my years of dealing with skin issues in the family, I've learned that eczema needs deep hydration, not antibiotics. Applying virgin coconut oil or a dermatologist-approved emollient is much safer than using neosporin repeatedly.

Eczema is often a sign of excess heat or stress inside the system. Instead of heavy chemical ointments, try practicing sheetali pranayama daily to cool your body. Keeping the skin hydrated with pure aloe vera gel also provides gentle relief.

I agree with the others. Neosporin can sometimes cause contact dermatitis on sensitive skin, so a plain moisturizer like Cetaphil is a safer bet.

Using neosporin on eczema isn't recommended because it doesn't address the underlying inflammatory issue. Eczema requires specific topical steroids or immunomodulators prescribed by a dermatologist. Self-treating with over-the-counter antibiotics can lead to resistance.
