Does mucinex help with fever?

My son has a persistent cough and also a low-grade fever. I have some Mucinex at home, but I'm not sure if it helps with fever too, or just cough and cold symptoms. Should I give him something else for the fever?

I am not very sure about this medicine, actually. I always thought it was only for chest congestion and coughing. Does it really have something to help lower body temperature, or do we need to take a separate paracetamol for that?

Based on my health app database, standard Mucinex is just an expectorant to clear mucus, so it won't help with fever. You'd need the 'Multi-Symptom' version which has acetaminophen in it. Always track your temperature on a digital thermometer and consult a physician if it stays high.

For fever, don't rely on just any cough medicine. Just do simple warm water sponge baths and take regular paracetamol after checking with your local family doctor. Keep yourself hydrated with hot dal soup or coconut water, that works best to bring the heat down.

Regular Mucinex only thins out your phlegm, it won't touch your fever at all. When I had a bad cold and high fever, my doctor specifically gave me a combo medicine for fever and congestion. Check the label carefully; if it doesn't say pain reliever or fever reducer, it won't help your temperature.

Beta, these English medicines are only for specific things. If you have a fever along with cough, take plenty of rest and drink ginger-tulsi tea. For the fever itself, consult a proper doctor rather than self-medicating with fancy syrups.
