I just recovered from a painful kidney stone last month. My doctor told me that high intake of tea, which contains oxalates, can contribute to stones if you don't drink enough water. Adding milk binds some oxalates, but limiting tea and drinking plenty of water is key.
I was reading about this recently because I drink 3 cups of milk tea daily. It seems tea is high in oxalates, which can cause stones, but calcium in milk actually binds with oxalates in the gut, reducing their absorption. So it is not as bad as black tea, but moderation is still important.
I used to drink 4-5 cups of sweet milk tea every day and ended up with a kidney stone. Since I cut down to just one cup and increased my water intake, I haven't had any issues. That's just my personal experience though.

Chai is life, and I honestly cannot function without my evening ginger milk tea! While we should be mindful of stones, I think as long as we drink lots of water alongside our food cravings, we should be perfectly fine.
Bro, we practically survive on tapri ki chai during exams. If milk tea caused kidney stones that easily, half of my hostel would be in the hospital. Just keep drinking water and don't stress.

I had a stone that got blocked in my ureter, which was incredibly painful and required surgery. The doctor strictly advised me to limit both caffeine and tea. Please get a clinical scan if you feel chronic lower back pain.
I panicked so much when someone told me chai causes kidney stones. But my doctor reassured me that normal, moderate consumption of milk tea is totally fine as long as you keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.
