Does metoprolol cause erectile dysfunction?

Since starting my blood pressure medication, Metoprolol, I've noticed some problems with erectile dysfunction. I wanted to confirm if this is a known side effect of the medicine.

Yeah, beta blockers like metoprolol are pretty well known for causing this kind of issue. It can be super awkward, but honestly, it's a very common side effect so don't feel weird about it.

Yes, it can reduce blood flow and cause this side effect. However, please do not stop taking your heart medication suddenly as that can be dangerous; consult your cardiologist for a safer alternative.

Instead of buying expensive private supplements to fix this, just pay a 500 rupee consultation fee to your doctor. They can easily switch you to a different class of BP medicine that doesn't cause this problem.

I was prescribed this recently and I am a bit nervous to start it now. Do all blood pressure medicines have this same issue, or is it just this particular group?

Yes, it is a very common side effect of beta-blockers. Don't suffer in silence or feel shy, just go to your doctor and ask them to change the molecule.

Hormonal and circulatory systems are very delicate. Just like managing PCOS, finding the right balance of medication takes trial and error, so please talk to your doctor supportively about this side effect.
