Does metformin hurt your liver?

I've been on Metformin for my diabetes for many years now. My blood reports recently showed some changes, and I'm worried if the medicine might be hurting my liver.

Nahi ji, bilkul darrne ki baat nahi hai. Hamare kasbe mein bahut log isse saalon se kha rahe hain aur sab tandurust hain. Liver ko koi nuksan nahi hota isse, bas aap bina doctor se pooche koi bhi dusri dawayi mat lijiye.

When my young son was put on metformin, my first fear was liver damage. But our doctor explained that it does not hurt the liver at all unless there is already a pre-existing severe liver failure. Just make sure your child eats healthy, low-fat home meals.

I have seen this question pop up many times in our community. Metformin is extremely safe for the liver and is actually often prescribed to people who have non-alcoholic fatty liver. Just stick to your doctor's dosage and keep getting your routine yearly blood tests done.

I used to drink giloy juice and turmeric water thinking allopathy would damage my liver, but my doctor cleared my doubts. Metformin is cleared mostly through the kidneys, not liver, so it's very safe. Sometimes we worry unnecessarily instead of trusting proper medicine.

If you are concerned, just get a Liver Function Test (LFT) done. It takes 5 minutes at any lab and costs very little. Metformin is globally certified as safe for liver, so don't delay your treatment based on unverified doubts.

Honestly, my terrible sleep schedule and late-night caffeine addiction probably hurt my liver more than metformin ever will! It's actually a very safe, time-tested drug. You don't need to lose sleep over this worry, it's fine.
